The Pirates of the Caribbean were nothing compared to the Smugglers of the New Forest!
Come and meet Hugh Burnard CBE. Former head of Customs and Excise for Southern England and an authority on the history of smuggling across the South and in the New Forest. Learn about the lives of people living in and around the New Forest who were involved in smuggling on the Hampshire and Dorset coast at a time when evading the revenue men was seen as an essential part of life and when extreme violence was an accepted means of avoiding capture.
Hugh will talk about the ancient smuggling routes and devious means used to avoid detection. Not for the squeamish!
