Further to Wednesday’s blog, Gerard has continued on his tasting fest and following a day visiting, Henriques and Henriques, Borges and Justino’s; many thanks to Humberto, Maria Isabel and Helena, as well as Juan, Julio. Today he has just returned from a half day of visiting and tasting at The Madeira Wine Company/Blandy’s. He has visited here on many occasions and just as past times, he spent a great day tasting with Francisco Albuquerque, the oenologue and wine director; he met up with Christopher Blandy and also with Jaques Faro da Silva, MD of the company, as well as Sofia and Filipe. They are a great team and Gerard came back eulogising about, amongst others, the Bual 1874, which was apparently amazing. In fact he enjoyed many wonderful wines- Madeira is one of his all time favourite wines and we both love the island. Thanks you all for your tremendous hospitality.

Tomorrow he is off to meet Mr Luis D’Oliveira, at D’Oliveiras……..there are still a few wineries that he hasn’t visited and so I am sure that they will be on his to do list before we fly home next week!
As for Romy and I we are still enjoying the poolside, but a trip on a pirate ship beckons any day soon!
