I admit that I don’t realize often enough what an enjoyable life I have. True, we work hard, with long hours thrown in for good measure, but overall it is an enjoyable life and one which many people look at and think is glamorous…… whilst that is not always quite the reality, this weekend it will certainly be so.
Following Gerard’s fantastic win last year at the World Sommelier Championship in Chile, one of his prizes was a weekend at the beautiful Chateau Saran, located in Epernay- part of the great Champagne region of France. We have visited the Chateau twice before and have very fond memories of each visit, but this time will be even more special as we are being joined by a number of great friends (some of whom are wine makers, restaurateurs and industry ambassadors) who will enjoy various tastings, gourmet dinners and vineyard visits with us. We are very privileged to receive such a generous invitation and feel honoured to be hosted by Moet et Chandon for such a superb weekend…… this weekend my life certainly will feel glamorous and charmed and I will greatly enjoy being ensconced in such a beautiful chateau and be surrounded by friends and family who are all very special. I am very excited and of course have been planning my wardrobe (new one of course) for months- it has been a great excuse to go shopping!
Shopping aside, I read with interest in last week’s Caterer magazine (the bible of the hospitality industry) their feature on successful women in the hospitality business. It is always inspiring to read about successful women; there are many great female hoteliers, restaurateurs and bed and breakfast owners…… it is a fantastic industry for many people to enjoy, be they male or female, but I think it is a business that often appeals to women because of our nurturing natures…. Women have a great eye for details and my mantra at TerraVina is that “success is in the detail”, but it is not an exclusive women’s world. We have many female members of our team at TerraVina; they are all terrific, but equally the chaps here are super too. Laurent is a gem, Chris our assistant GM is a treasure and our team of chefs are mostly male and then there is of course Gerard, who is unique and very special. Thus, I think it is fantastic that the Caterer has applauded women in a special feature, (and if I’m honest I would have loved for either myself, Suzi or Laura to have been included too), but that said, overall the hospitality business is full of great people, whatever their gender- it is what makes the business so special that it is full of very talented people, be they male or female and we are fortunate to have them all in our industry.
For those who enjoy the series there is another Wine Box TV video and the 2nd in our own TerraVina TV series to enjoy too.
